5,000 HOURS IN A SINGLE DAY? –CONCORD HOSPITALITY MAKES JUNE 9 A DAY OF GIVING —
Capping off a year in which they raised more than $100,000, Concord Hospitality Enterprises Company associates – from the bussers to the board room – are banding together on June 9, 2015 to provide food and shelter to those in need.
Since starting Share Day in 2009, Concord Hospitality associates have raised more than $500,000, distributed one million meals, and refurbished dozens of homes.
Those totals rise this year as 4,000 associates at Concord Hospitality properties across North America give 5,000 hours of service and deliver more than 100,000 meals to needy families on a single day. Share Day 2015 is the culmination of efforts that began a year ago to raise more than $100,000 for charities, primarily through grassroots activities such as bake sales and car washes.
“Our associates want to give back to their local communities, but often lack the resources to do so entirely on their own,” said Debra Punke, Concord Hospitality senior vice president of human resources. “Together we can create a greater, more meaningful impact in the communities where we live and work.”
“This isn’t just about one day out of the year,” Punke continued. “This is about celebrating a culture of giving, a cornerstone of how our company and 4,000 associates choose to do business.”
All 83 Concord Hospitality hotels will participate in this year’s Share Day, volunteering time and other resources in their local communities. The largest Share Day events will happen in six markets:
Feed the Children
Poverty hurts nearly one in seven American children, making it difficult for them to get nutritious food that helps them grow healthy and strong. Founded 35 years ago, Feed the Children exists to end child hunger. On June 9, Concord Hospitality associates in Englewood, NJ, Tampa, FL, and Houston, TX will help prepare and deliver more than 100,000 meals to 1,200 families in need in partnership with Feed the Children.
Habitat for Humanity
Concord Hospitality associates in Toronto, Canada are teaming with Habitat for Humanity Canada to build and refurbish homes. Around 1.5 million Canadian families are in need of safe, decent and affordable shelter. Habitat for Humanity mobilizes volunteers and community partners to build affordable housing and promote homeownership, helping break the cycle of poverty.
Rebuilding Together
In America, there are 5.2 million homeowners living in deteriorating, physically inadequate homes that threaten their wellbeing. Every year, Rebuilding Together completes around 10,000 rebuilding projects, helping stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods across the country. Concord Hospitality associates in Pittsburgh, PA and Columbus, OH will partner with Rebuilding Together to restore homes.
